Spanish - English Gastronomy Translator
I have a passion for languages, travelling and different cultures. I feel at home when I visit an English speaking restaurant in a country whose language I don’t speak. My goal is to transmit this same feeling to the English speaking tourists who visit La Rioja giving them a sense of feeling welcomed here.
“…Nobody feels foreign in Logroño…”
Tourism Translation
I am passionate about travelling, meeting new people and learning about different cultures. Gastronomy, culture, music, cooking, outdoor activities and travelling are other intersts of mine. My translations can bring these experiences closer to tourists, giving them first-hand information as well as taking their culture into account. Working in the tourism industry will enable me to work on a range of projects in many different areas which I am passionate about.
Gastronomy Translation
Tasting different cuisines and sampling local wines is one of my favourite leisure activities. La Rioja has a wide variety of local and traditional dishes which are based on the locally grown products from the region. I have a real interest in food tourism and I decided to translate some riojan recipes for my MA Thesis. I thoroughly enjoyed the translation process despite the challeneges I encountered on the way.
Experience and Translation Projects
At the very start of my career in the translation industry I collaborated with a colleague working as a translator-editor team. This gave me more of a real-life insight to the life of a translator and editor and I also learned more about the tasks the job roles entail.
In July 2021 I signed up for the 4 week ASETRAD gastronomy course “¡Al ataque! Introducción a la traducción gastronómica”. I thoroughly enjoyed this course and I have added more tools to my translators tool box.
In October 2021 I attended my first Trabalengua Conference here in La Rioja. As a growing culinary translator, I learnt a lot from the event, especially from the talks with first-hand language and translation professionals such as Mikel Iturriaga (a philologist, journalist and food critic), Rosa LLopis (a gastronomy translator) and Fernando Sáenz (a local ice cream parlour chef).
In February 2023 I attended the Rioja Wine Trade Mission where I was interpreting for a wine producer.
In February 2023 I collaborated with a local tourism agency to help them communicate in English to potenial clients.
In Novemeber 2023 I worked as a freelancer for a Spanish translation agency providing support for hotels in the Dominican Republic.
In June 2024 I collaborated with a Rioja travel agency specialising in tailor-made wine tourism routes. Tourist guide with experience in the world of wine dedicated to providing foreign clients with the best possible experience on their trip to Rioja Alta and Alavesa.
